• Combat Infantrymen’s Association is conducting a fundraiser with a raffle for a 40-inch Sony television. The drawing is Dec. 15. Tickets are $2 each. Proceeds go to benefit veterans. • Byng High School Theatre presents “Our Leading Lady” at 7 p.m. in Byng High School auditorium. “Our Leading Lady” is  a comedy that takes place at the end of the Civil War in Ford’s Theatre. The story follows the backstage antics and rivalries of actors performing “Our American Cousin” before and after the Lincoln assassination. Ticket  prices are $3 each for students and $5 each for adults and will be available at the door.

• CASA will begin accepting new or gently used items for a garage sale to benefit abused children in this area. The garage sale takes place Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at 514 E. 10th. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to help abused children in this area.

• PAST organization meets at 5:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Ada on Broadway. The meeting is open to anyone interested in helping  preserve memories of the past.

• Ada Rubber Art Stamp Club meets at 6:30 p.m. at Scraptopia, 107 W. Main Street. Newcomers are always welcome. There are no fees and you do not need to bring anything with you in order to participate. The club meets the first Thursday of each month. For more information, phone 580-310-9787.

• South Central Oklahoma Lupus Support Group meets the first Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be held  at 6 p.m. at Main Street Church of Christ, 408 East Main Street, Davis. • Vanoss Volunteer Fire Department hots its appreciation dinner for the community at 6 p.m. at the Vanoss Volunteer Fire Department. To thank the community for its support the volunteers are serving a free barbecue dinner. For more information, phone Rance Walker, fire chief, at 580-310-4792.

• The town of Fitzhugh is hosting a hamburger feed and pie auction to raise funds for a Fitzhugh storm Shelter and Community Building. The event takes place from 5-7 p.m. at Fitzhugh Baptist Church. Donations will be accepted. All proceeds go toward the completion of the shelter. For more information, phone Sharon Phillips at 580-399-0522.

• Headmen Cliff Bishop and Don Harness and councilman Mooris Chiles of Lost Cherokee of Arkansas and Missouri are conducting a meeting at non at Allen Masonic Lodge. This is a fundraiser. Members are asked to take food items for the auction, including dry goods, canned goods, home-grown produce, jams and jellies, cakes and pies. All members are encouraged to attend.

• Oil Center Volunteer Fire Department’s annual hamburger fry and pie auction takes place at Oil Center Pentecostal Holiness Church. Hamburgers and hotdogs served from 5-7 p.m.; annual meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. and pict auction begins at 7 p.m. Auctioneer is Clay Young. Donated pies and cakes for the auciton will be appreciated. Drawings will be conducted for a rifle and shotgun.

• Wrangler reunion is 10 a.m. at Coalgate Park Building. The reunion is open to anyone who has ever worked at Wrangler, VF or Blue Bell and their families. Take finger foods, snacks, desserts, chips, dip and or drinks. Those who have plant photos or memorabilia are asked to take those for viewing. For more information, phone 927-6473.

• American Legion Post 72 hosts bingo each Saturday night. Mini games begin at 6 p.m. and regular bingo begins at 7 p.m. Snack bar items are available. 

 

SUNDAY

OCTOBER 6, 2013

• Wild Goose musicians jam session takes place each Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at Wild Goose Club in Sasakwa. This event is a gathering for musicians for a house band and opening for the house band and promotions. Musicians need to take their own instruments. The event is free and open to the public.
