Area briefs are for non-profit events and organizations and run in The Ada News as space is available. 

 

THURSDAY

JULY 17, 2014

• Ada First Baptist Church Bread of Life Ministry offers a free meal to those in the community who are in need. The meal is served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the church dining room, 521 S. Broadway Ave., Ada. For more information, call 580-332-4121.

• The Pontotoc County Democratic Party meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Pontotoc County Agri-plex in Room D.

 

FRIDAY

JULY 18, 2014

• Al-Anon meets at 8 p.m. each Friday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

• Ada Narcotics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Reaper Baptist Church, 3301 N. Broadway. For more information, call 580-320-9984.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays downstairs at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. 

 

   SATURDAY

JULY 19, 2014

• The third annual “Get Your PAWS Moving” 5K race/run and 1 mile walk are taking place at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 19,  at Wintersmith Park. Entry forms are available at Gym 210, Perk’s Club and Whiterock Fitness in Ada. Early registration fee is $25 or $30 the day of the event. Proceeds benefit Pontotoc County Animal Welfare Society.

• American Legion Post 72 hosts bingo each Saturday night. Mini games begin at 6 p.m. and regular bingo begins at 7 p.m. Snack bar items are available.

• Traditional country music every third Saturday at 7 p.m. with a special guest and the Country Pride Band at Mary’s Music Barn, located three and three-fourths miles south and one-fourth mile west of Stonewall on the Jesse Highway.   • Martin family holds reunion

    Members of the family of the late Otis Sr. and Viola Roundtree Martin met for a reunion at Fossil Creek, south of Ada, on July 4. The men golfed in the morning, and the kids went swimming. Lots of visiting and making memories.

    George and Judy Hanson of Ada will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a come-and-go reception hosted by their family from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Ada Church of the Nazarene. No gifts requested.

    Curtis A. Ross and Juanita Ann Ross of Ada celebrated 60 years of marriage July 18, 2014. The couple was married July 18, 1954.
