A reception was held June 7 to honor Gertrude Bush, who recently retired as chairman of the Pontotoc County Election Board.
Bush was appointed to the Pontotoc County Election Board April 1, 1985, and has served as the Democratic chairman since that time. She completed 28 years of service and dedication to the voters of Pontotoc County.
Bush has seen many changes take place within the Oklahoma election system, according to a news release from the election board.
When Bush began her tenure, ballots were counted by hand. Now, as she is leaving, Oklahoma has implemented a second phase of election machines that read a ballot as it is scanned into the device. The newest machines allow much quicker and more efficient election night procedures.
