Local women prepare for Miss Ada pageant

The Miss Ada scholarship pageant board announces the 2014 Miss Ada  Scholarship Pageant and Miss Ada’s Outstanding Teen pageant is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28  at the McSwain Theatre, 130 West Main.  Representing Miss Ada  are returning 2013 queens Brooke Hamilton, Miss Ada, and Joei Whisenant is representing  Miss Ada’s Outstanding Teen. Miss Ada 2006 and Miss Oklahoma 2009, Taylor Treat Burget is master of ceremonies this year.

The Miss Ada Board encourages the involvement of junior high, high school, and university young women in the scholarship pageant. East Central University provides a one year scholarship to the newly crowned Miss Ada and a one semester scholarship to the first runner up. Miss Ada and Miss Ada’s Outstanding Teen will represent Ada at the Miss Oklahoma scholarship pageant.  The Miss America Scholarship Pageant organization and its state and local pageants made available more than 45 million in cash and scholarship assistance last year.

Miss Ada contestants must be from ages 17-24, and the Miss Ada’s Outstanding Teen  from 13-17. Contestants compete in four categories: talent, interview, evening wear and  physical fitness; swimsuit for miss contestants and active wear for the teen contestants. 

They  also need a platform of their choice and will be involved in working with the Children’s Miracle Network.  Interested applicants can download the application and read the official rules from  the Ada website at

The pageant is limited to the first 10 applicants for Miss Teen Ada and the first 12 applicants  for Miss Ada. The application deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 28, and orientation is Sunday,  Sept 8, at Ada Arts and Heritage Center.

General admission tickets go on sale Sept. 2  and can be purchased at McSwain  Theatre, Central Oklahoma Dance Center, and Artisan Salon for $10 each or $12  at  the door, the night of the pageant.
