Ada — Area briefs are for non-profit events and organizations. Briefs must be submitted at least five days before the event by bringing them into the office, emailing them to adanewslifestyle@cableone.net or faxing them to 580-332-8841. Briefs will not be accepted over the telephone. Church-related briefs are published only on Friday’s religion page. All activities may be subject to change due to weather conditions. 

 

TUESDAY

JUNE 11, 2013

• Pauls Valley Library Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. at the library to discuss The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. This story centers on the people who join a knitting class  and the ways that their lives enrich each other. The club will be selecting books for the rest of the year. Ideas of great books to discuss are welcomed. The meeting is open to all readers.

• American Legion Auxiliary Unit 72 meets at 5 p.m. upstairs of Ada Public Library. This is a regular monthly meeting and election of officers for 2013-14.

• Compassionate Friends Ada area chapter meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month  in the parlor of First United Methodist Church, 129 W. 14th Street. This non-profit organization is for those grieving the death of a child. 

• Al-Anon meets at 8 p.m. each Tuesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

 

WEDNESDAY

JUNE 12, 2013

• Emotions Anonymous is meeting every Wednesday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Drive. For more information, phone  Kristina at (580) 279-4870. 

• Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Road, Ada. This group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 580-332-6506.

• A dance is conducted each Wednesday at Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and is open to the public.

• Oklahoma Farm Bureau Safety Services is presenting an Auto Accident Prevention Course on June 24 and 25, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pontotoc County Farm Bureau Office, 1027 West Main, Ada, with instruction on how to improve one’s driving skills. Upon earning the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course Certificate, one would be eligible to receive a discount on his auto insurance. The class is open to the public. • ACT II Youth Drama Camp 2013 presents Montgomery Mansion, a horror musical comedy by Vickie Reifsnider.  Performance begins at 7 p.m. in ECU’s Dorothy I. Summers Theatre. Tickets are available at the door 30 minutes prior to performance time; $8 adults, $6 students/seniors, $4 children age 5 and under. • Cruisin’ for CASA dinner, concert, live and silent auction takes place at Pontotoc County Agri-plex. Dinner and silent auction are from 6-7:30 p.m., live auction at 7:30 p.m. and music and dancing at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 each for adults and $15 each for children ages 12 and younger. • Traditional Country Music takes place the third Saturday of each month at Mary’s Music Barn, featuring The Country Pride Band with special guests.
