Ada — “Our government today is in such a mess, I am reminded of what Ronald Reagan said when he was president. “The government’s view of economy can be summed up in a few short phrases. If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it.”

“Wednesday’s editorial made fun of a possible bill that would prevent lobbyists from threatening legislators as if they are engaging in the democratic process. These days lobbyists control hundreds of thousands of dollars that are spent on campaigns. If you don’t vote their way, yes they will get somebody else to run against you. Many times they are representing out-of-state concerns and corporations that are taking more money out of Oklahoma than welfare recipients. Over 2 billion dollars have been given to businesses.

Maybe that is why we don’t have money for schools and roads and mental health. Wouldn’t it be right if we were to prevent lobbyists from threatening legislators with the jobs that help support their families?”
