Letter to the Editor

Ada —

To the Editor:

Regarding The Oklahoman Sunday, July 7, 2013, headline, "Workers in State Begin Furloughs," the headline should read, "Furloughs Begin at Tinker Air Base." Anyway, not to sound unsympathetic toward the 20,000 being furloughed, but will there be at the same time a reduction of $30,000 to $40,000 pickups and towed boats I see on weekends going east on South Street toward the Konawa Lake?

What about the 600,000 Oklahomans who are food insecure? That's according to the Oklahoma Food Bank. Plus the fact about 1 million Oklahomans are having a very tough time making ends meet. I suppose the 20,000 furloughs from the corporate welfare Tinker Air Force Base can now be added to the State of Oklahoma welfare rolls.

  • Jerry Duncan The roll call of the misfits

The roll call of the faithful in Hebrews 11 is designed to inspire us and give us hope. Comparing our difficulties with theirs gives us some perspective when the problems of life feel overwhelming. There are some pretty terrible and overwhelming struggles described there.

  • Jerry Duncan How Is Your Adventure Going?

I love Steven Curtis Chapman’s music, at least, most of it. Before my last trip to Romania, I recorded some favorite tunes from different artists that spoke something I needed for the trip. The words to his song, "The Great Adventure" were perfect for me.
