Ada — I attended a luncheon put on by the Chamber of Commerce at the Pontotoc County Technology Center on May 16. The guest speakers were the two candidates for Pontotoc County court clerk. As a former court clerk for this county and a citizen still interested in our county government, I attended the event to hear the candidates.
I was appalled at the words that came out of the mouth of Mr. Kevin Turney regarding Ernestine Eubank, the former court clerk who gave him a job there, stating that she “manipulated the system” by retiring when she did. I worked side by side with Mrs. Eubank for 28 years and know her both professionally and socially. Mrs. Eubank has dedicated 46 years of her life as a public servant in the court clerk’s office and a more virtuous and honest woman cannot be found. I believe that her character and integrity should not be questioned or marred by someone who evidently does not even know her and I think Mr. Turney should extend a public apology for his misstatement.
