11th-ranked Reddies next test for ECU

Ada —

It appeared the East Central University offense took two big steps forward when the Tigers piled up 450 yards during a 41-3 Homecoming win on Oct. 6.

But the Tigers may have taken a half-dozen steps back during a disappointing 19-0 setback to Southern Arkansas last week at Norris Field. ECU managed just 123 total yards, only five first downs, and improving redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Bond was intercepted four times.

It was the first time an East Central team had been shut out since dropping a 48-0 road loss to Nebraska-Omaha in the 2009 season-opener and the first time the Tigers failed to put points on the Norris Field scoreboard since a 28-0 loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville way back on Sept. 10, 2005.

"It's been disappointing. We haven't been able to put two games together back-to-back all season," said ECU head coach Tim McCarty. "We've played a good game, and then we've played one like 'Where you guys at?'. We challenged the offense last week to do it two times in a row and they didn't meet the challenge. Unfortunately, we ended up with a very poor offensive outing."

McCarty admitted his mostly-new offensive unit is a work in progress.
