Tim McCarty was looking for adjectives while trying to avoid expletives in describing his thoughts on the performance by his offense in Saturday night's 13-10 loss at Southwestern.
"It was aggravating — frustrating wouldn't be the right word," said McCarty, whose 1-2 club has totaled less than 400 yards the past two weeks in a win over first-year Division II squad Southern Nazarene and the ugly loss to the Bulldogs in the Great American Conference opener for both teams. "We failed miserably to take advantage of some of the gifts the defense gave us.
"The one drive we had (a nice 87-yarder for the only ECU touchdown of the night) was the first drive all year that I was happy with, and I thought maybe it had just clicked," he added. "But it didn't click — that was just one drive that stood by itself, and no other drives emulated that one."
