Ada —

Robert Langland, a 1983 graduate of East Central University, has been named the recipient of the 2012 Milam Award.  Langland will receive the award, Saturday, Oct. 6 during halftime of the Tigers’ homecoming football game with Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The Milam Award is given out each year at homecoming to a former ECU football player who has distinguished himself in his chosen career. The award is named in honor of Joe Milam, who was a former educator and coach in the states of Oklahoma and Texas.

Langland was an undersized defensive lineman for the Tigers from 1981-83, but that didn’t stop him from leading the team in tackles in 1983. In his final season in a black and orange uniform he recorded 43 solo tackles, 24 assisted tackles (67 total), one tackle-for-loss and two sacks.  For his efforts Langland claimed second team all-conference honors.  He ended his career with 110 total tackles (68-42), three tackles-for-loss (20 yards), two sacks and a fumble recovery.
