ECU's Tyler McGrew named GAC Defensive Player of the Week

East Central University senior linebacker Tyler McGrew has been named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 29 after helping the Tigers upset No. 20 Ouachita Baptist, 37-27, at Norris Field Oct. 27.

The Broken Arrow native started the game by throwing ECU’s first touchdown pass of the game on a fake field goal. McGrew threw a four-yard pass to sophomore Cody Nall with 8:28 left in the first quarter to put the Tigers up 6-0.

With ECU up 17-7 in the second quarter, McGrew added his first interception of the season and returned it 23 yards that set up a touchdown for the Tigers and put them up 24-7.

McGrew ended the game with a team-best 12 (4-8) tackles on defense.

The Tigers will now prepare for a road game at Arkansas Tech on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. in Russellville, Ark.
