East Central Fall Sports Roundup

Ada —

Volleyball set for final week

of regular season action

ADA – The East Central University volleyball team is preparing for its final week of the 2012 regular season and a trip to the 2012 Great American Conference Championship Tournament. The Lady Tigers have claimed a spot in the eight-team tournament and are currently ranked No. 5 in the GAC standings.

ECU will first face Southern Nazarene Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center in Bethany. The Lady Tigers will then play a non-conference match against Central Oklahoma, Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Fieldhouse in Edmond.

ECU went 1-1 last week and is now 10-20 overall and 7-6 in the GAC. The Lady Tigers are in fifth place in the standings just one game ahead of Ouachita Baptist, but ECU cannot move up to the No. 4 spot held by Southwestern Oklahoma State (9-4).

Last week, the Lady Tigers were led by senior Tatiana Booth and junior Noelle Cope. Booth hit .413 (24k-5e-46ta) and added five blocks, while Cope hit .276 (24k-8e-58ta) and had 23 digs.

The Crimson Storm are 11-19 overall and 6-6 in the GAC, but are not eligible for the tournament in 2012. SNU will faced Northwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday before hosting ECU. The Crimson Storm trails its opponents in all statistical categories, but the numbers are close.

SNU has two key hitters to watch for in Natalia Oliveria and Kira Roberts, both with over 700 attempts on the season. Oliveria is hitting .190 (249k-98e-793ta) while adding 35 service aces and 399 digs. Roberts is hitting at a .163 (235k-116e-728ta) pace and has 44 blocks. Nicole Greenway is the most consistent hitter and blocker for the Crimson Storm, with a .211 (177k-81e-456ta) hitting percentage and 74 (11-63) blocks.

In the first meeting with SNU this season (Oct. 16), the Lady Tigers earned a 3-0 win at the Kerr Activities Center. Cope led the team with a .381 (10k-2e-21ta) hitting percentage and 12 digs, while setter Jessica Wilkinson added a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs. Greenway led the Crimson Storm with a .421 (10k-2e-19ta) hitting percentage.
