ECU flutist, pianist set free Thursday concert at center

Ada — East Central University adjunct instructor and flutist Juliana Overmier, accompanied on the piano by ECU’s Dr. Starla Hibler, will perform on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center, located at 14th and Rennie in Ada.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The pair will perform works by John Carmichael, Giuseppe Verdi, Jacques Casterede, Franz Doppler, and Jacques Ibert.

Overmier was a prize winner in both the 2009 Chicago Flute Club’s Solo Artist Competition and the 2009 National Flute Association’s Convention Performers Competition in New York.

An active performer and competitor, Overmier has also won first prize in several other competitions, including the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition in Boston, the Concours Artistique Lucien Wurmser in Paris, and the Byron Hester Solo Flute Competition in Houston in 2007.
