Frame honored with commemorative bench on university campus

Ada —

Friends, family members and former colleagues of Dr. Norman Frame were on hand to witness the dedication of a commemorative bench honoring the former East Central University professor of education on Nov. 3.

The new bench joins approximately 30 memorial benches in the Frank R. Crabtree, Sr. Honor Plaza.

Frame came to Ada and ECU in 1964 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. At ECU, he served as director of elementary education. He also taught elementary school methods courses in mathematics, reading, language arts and elementary curriculum.

He made many presentations to professional groups in the state and had numerous articles published in both state and national professional journals. After 33 years of teaching at ECU, he retired on June 1, 1997.

Frame is a native of Checotah and earned his bachelor of science in education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 1954. He received his master in education from the University of Oklahoma in 1959 and was granted his doctor’s degree in elementary education from OU in 1963.

Through the years, he has been active in several Ada community affairs.

Following the unveiling, Phyllis Danley, executive director of the ECU Foundation and her staff, treated the group to a luncheon in the Sterling L. Williams Foundation and Alumni Center.
