Roberto and Dorothy Escamilla will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014. They were married at Fittstown United Methodist Church, where they originally met, during the Christmas season.
Dr. Escamilla has served in ministry with The United Methodist Church for over 60 years and is still serving part-time at First United Methodist here in Ada. He served as senior pastor at several local churches in Texas, as well as working for The United Methodist Church headquarters in New York and Tennessee. He also traveled extensively around the world as an evangelist.
Mrs. Escamilla retired from active teaching in Texas for over 45 years in San Antonio, Dallas, Austin and in Nashville, Tennessee. She taught orchestra and music, as well as elementary ages, first through eighth grades. She is currently enjoying travel, gardening, birding, reading, photography, volunteering and singing in the church choir.
They are both members at First United Methodist Church here in Ada.
They are the parents of Marlene Escamilla Williams of Georgetown, Texas, Robert and Janeth Pearl Escamilla of Raleigh, North Carolina, Paul and Elizabeth Lynd Escamilla of Austin, Texas, and David Escamilla of San Antonio, Texas.
They have 10 grandchildren, Grace, Sonja, Josh and Angie Escamilla, Sarah Escamilla Schwab, Anna and Dave Escamilla, and Devin, Reid and Shelby Claire Williams.
The four children and their parents celebrated their upcoming anniversary with a trip to Cancun, Mexico, during the late summer of 2014.
