The Ada News
Ada has a new attorney in town.
Erik Johnson and his family moved from Miami to Ada in March so they could be closer to relatives. Johnson’s firm, Erik Johnson and Associates, already had offices in Tulsa and Miami, and he opened a third office in Ada.
Johnson said he focuses on civil litigation, but he also handles probate and trust administration. He also serves as general counsel for various local governments, public trust authorities — organizations established to fill a public function, such as an economic development agency — and nonprofits.
His firm also handles criminal cases, business licenses and other legal matters.
“Basically, I solve problems for people,” Johnson said. “People come to me, and they’ve got something that’s really affecting either their bottom line or their ability to sleep at night. I take care of those issues.”
The firm has two attorneys in the Miami office and one in Tulsa.
Johnson said law is his profession, but baseball is his passion. He coached a traveling team in Ottawa County, and he and his wife were involved in the RBI Miami organization, which raised money for local baseball programs.
Johnson coaches the Ada Cougars 10-year-old baseball team and is a member of the Kiwanis of Greater Ada.
Johnson’s wife grew up on a farm outside Coalgate, and his in-laws moved to Ada about 15 years ago. The Johnsons lived in Miami for several years before moving to Ada.
Johnson said he is enjoying life in Ada.
“I’ve had a great reception in Ada,” he said. “I’m very excited at the prospect of raising our kids here. The kids love it, which obviously is most important.”
Johnson is married to Sarah Jane Johnson. The couple has three children: David, 10, Mary Beth, 7, and Will, 5.
