Woman, dog hit by vehicle; driver flees

Ada — An Ada woman and her dog were hit by a vehicle Monday and were reportedly left for dead.

Central dispatch sent out an emergency call of an unresponsive woman lying near the road and a dead dog lying in the road in the 2800 block of Arlington at 9:42 p.m. Ada police and firefighters, along with Mercy EMS, responded.

Emergency personnel arrived and rendered aid to 49-year-old Angela Wilburn for serious injuries.

Ada Police Officers Kathy Unbewust and Adam Vanlandingham spoke with two good Samaritans at the scene.

“Officer Vanlandingham made contact with the reporting parties, Cole Jack and Zachary Horne,” Unbewust wrote in a report. “Horne stated he was driving in the inside lane, westbound in the 2800 block of E. Arlington when he saw what appeared to be a dead dog lying in the road. Horne stated that as they passed, his passenger, Cole Jack, saw what looked like a person lying in the grass on the north side of the street. Horne then turned around and stopped his vehicle in the roadway to protect the dog and called 911.”

Wilburn was taken to Mercy Hospital Ada, then taken by Medi Flight to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis, police said. A spokesperson for OU Medical Center said Tuesday Wilburn was in serious condition.

“It appears Ms. Wilburn was walking with her dog, a small brown short-hair dog, when she and the dog were struck by a westbound vehicle, description unknown,” Unbewust wrote. “Officers located several pieces of what appear to be car parts from the point of impact.”

The car parts were collected as evidence. Anyone with information to this crime can phone CrimeStoppers at 33CATCH — 332-2824 to report it and remain anonymous.
