The Ada News
EXETER, Calif. — Weldon “Bud” and Carolyn Johnson Brumley recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 2, 1951, in Ada where they were born and raised.
After they were married and Mr. Brumley spent a short time in the Army, the couple returned to Ada where Mr. Brumley worked at the Pepsi Company and at Carolyn’s uncle’s family-owned Ada Candy Company. Mr. Brumley later attended East Central (college) in Ada and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree while Carolyn worked.
They then decided to move to California where Mr. Brumley finished his master’s degree. After the birth of three daughters, Jayna Eager, Beth Eggleston and Paula Evans, Mrs. Brumley finished her degree at age 50. The couple taught in the San Joaquin Valley of California (Visalia, Woodlake, Strathmore, Exeter and Seville.) Mr. Brumley, who will be 80 in December, retired as a superintendent but still substitutes in the school system. Mrs. Brumley retired three years ago at age 75.
They have returned to Ada many times to visit family who still live in the Ada and Stratford areas. They have also traveled to Russia, China, Mexico and the Philippines to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In addition to their daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Brumley’s family members include two sons-in-law, Jim Eager and Evan D. Evans; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Anyone who would like to wish the couple a Happy Anniversary or send birthday wishes to Carolyn Brumley (Sept. 27), may send cards to 623 N. Quince St., Exeter, Calif. 93221.
