Don and Shirley Chambers Boatright celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 1.
They were married on June 1, 1962, at Fitzhugh by Frank Thompson, pastor of Fitzhugh Baptist Church. At the time of their marriage, Mr. Boatright was working for Lock Joint Pipe Company. When the company re-located to another state, he began work as a ranch hand for Chapman Ranch. Later he worked for Scott Manufacturing Company. Then he went to work for Jim Wyche in home construction. Eventually he and his brother-in-law, Alvin Chambers, began their own business in home construction. After Alvin’s death, he worked with Jerry King in home construction until his retirement. Mr. Boatright also spent six years in Oklahoma National Guard.
Mrs. Boatright finished her education earning bachelor's and master's degrees in education from East Central University. She began her teaching career at Dougherty. After three years there, she began a career at Roff that lasted 37 years. The last five years of her teaching career she also directed Roff's first 21st Century Grant. She retired after 40 years of teaching. After retiring, she taught part time at Homer School for one year. She is presently working for NAEP as a test administrator in schools in Oklahoma and she is also employed by Citizens Bank of Ada.
They are members of Fitzhugh Baptist Church.
The Boatrights have two daughters: Keisha Brewer and her husband Randall, Roff, and D’Ann Wyche and her husband Dan, Fitzhugh. Keisha works for Citizens Bank and D’Ann teaches at Latta School.
Mr. and Mrs. Boatright have five grandsons: Dakota Brewer, Zack Brewer, D.T. Wyche, Dash Wyche, and Little Mookie Wyche (deceased).
In honor of their 50 years together, the Boatrights took a trip to Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and Arkansas. While in Tennessee and South Carolina they were joined by Keisha, Randall, Dakota and Zack. They spent time together in Gatlinburg, Smokey Mountains National Park and Myrtle Beach.
On their return home, family and friends surprised the couple with a dinner at Santa Fe Steakhouse.
