Local couple married 65 years

Ada —  

ADA — The family of Leon and Pearl Morris are hosting a reception Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, to celebrate the couple’s 65th wedding anniversary. The celebration takes place from 2-4 p.m. at Stratford Free Will Baptist Church Activity Center, located at 101 Church St.

Leon and Pearl Morris were married Feb. 25, 1946, in Oneonta, Ala. Mr. Morris had recently returned home from serving three years in the Pacific theater as a pharmacist mate in the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Morris had worked at Martin Marietta in Georgia during  World War II.

Soon after they were married, they moved to Oklahoma and eventually settled in Stratford, Mr. Morris’ home town.

The Morrises have eight children: Evelyn and husband Butch Bradley, Stratford; Nancy and husband Jerry Duncan, Ada; Sarah and husband J.E. Rooker, McCloud; David Morris and wife Connie, Ada; Cindy and husband Bill Paul, Ada; Mary and husband Phil Shivers, Ada; Becky and husband Wes McClaflin, Blanchard; and Leah and husband Bryan Lyon, Ada. Leon and Pearl Morris have a very large extended family with numerous grandchildren and great, grandchildren.

The family asks that no gifts be given.
