Meeker boys coach Brad Seaborn probably knew his team was overmatched against top seed Ada during the first round of the 2012 Bison Invitational Thursday afternoon inside Oklahoma Baptist University's Noble Complex.
So when the Bulldogs started off the game on offense, Seaborn ordered his club to slow the game way down. That strategy worked for about two minutes.
Ada star sophomore Cory Kilby got a steal during the Cougars' pressure defense and turned the takeaway into a thunderous, two-handed slam at the 6:09 mark of the opening quarter. Ada would then score 12 of the next 15 points to build a 16-3 lead and kept the pedal to the metal en route to an easy 76-34 season-opening win.
"It was a very, very good win. I was very happy with the guys that started the game, and very happy for everybody else that came in," Ada head coach Ron Anderson said."They came out and held the ball a little bit early, and we had to go get them. I think that might have helped us a little bit. I was going to kind of play back, and feel it out first, but they forced us to come out a little quicker than I had planned to. "
Ada fans saw 10 different players get significant playing time and before the final buzzer sounded, everybody on the Cougar bench saw the court.
