Ada's Doffin may have own date with destiny

Ada —

Cougar Tristan Doffin was in the hospital when Ada won its last football state championship in 1996.

But unlike Gary Bertier cheering on his T.C. Williams teammates from his hospital bed in the 1971 Virginia state championship game loosely profiled in the film, "Remember the Titans", Doffin was reportedly not cheering for his Cougars.

When the 1996 Ada Cougars mounted up for the trip to OSU to win Ada’s last state title on 7 December, Doffin stayed home. He was one day old at Valley View Regional Hospital.

At a recent practice, when told of the proximity of the two dates, the now sophomore Cougar said, “Hey, that makes this season even more special.”

The number 40, 5-10 by 184 tight end and linebacker is in a sophomore class that could turn out to be something special before they are through. That group is already a big part of the current campaign, unbeaten at 6-0 going into Friday's game with Glenpool at Norris Field and a potential challenger for another trip to Stillwater to play for the gold ball.

Cougar assistant coach Greg Mitchell described Doffin as a solid, hard-working, hard-hitting linebacker. Unfortunately, an injury may keep him on the sidelines this season.
