The Ada News
The highly anticipated Ada versus Byng showdown at the Class 4A Regional Tournament at Bobby Johns Field fizzled in a hurry.
Host Byng spotted Ada ace Leah Huling a six-run lead after two innings and that was more than enough cushion as the Lady Cougars cruised to a 10-0, five-inning run-rule victory.
Huling struck out seven and scattered four hits in keeping a potent Byng lineup in check.
"You get three or four runs early — something we haven't done much all year long — you have to feel good with Leah on the mound. She's been phenomenal and continued to be today," said Ada head coach Scott Simpson."I told the girls today that as good as Leah's been all year, the last three or four games she's been even better. She did a great job against Dickson in districts and to shut Byng out says a lot about how far she's come. To shut this team out is really saying something."
However, Ada (22-10) and Byng (26-12) will go head-to-head one more time today at noon.
