The Ada High School boys and girls cross country teams aim for one of the top seven positions as a Class 5A regional takes place Saturday at Norman's Irving Middle School.
The girls’ regional meet begins at noon on Saturday while the boys’ regional race follows at approximately 12:45 p.m.
A top seven spot enables the Cougars to qualify as a team for the state championships at Edmond Santa Fe High School on Oct. 27.
The Ada boys’ squad has been led throughout the season by junior Steven Davidson, who is on the brink of breaking the 17-minute mark in 5-kilometer events.
In his most recent race, the Oklahoma Baptist University Pre-State Meet on Oct. 4 in Shawnee, Davidson clocked in at 17:14 in the 5k race to finish fifth out of 87 runners.
“Steven has placed in the top 10 in most of his races and has a chance to medal high,” said Ada head coach Drake Daniels.
Daniels has been pleased with the Cougars’ steady improvement in times this season, particularly the previous OBU meet in which a trio of seniors – Julien Howells (19:45), Ryan Bond (19:52), and Spencer Beal (19:59) – along with junior Coleman Dennis (19:59) each broke the 20-minute barrier. Also running for Ada at the regional meet will be Matthew Southard and Garrett Bacon.
