Shawnee —

The Ada Lady Cougars were limited to 22 percent shooting and committed 18 turnovers in dropping a 58-24 decision at Class 5A top-ranked Shawnee Tuesday night.

The Lady Wolves, 7-1 on the season and the defending state champions, knocked down seven 3-pointers and shot 55 percent from the floor. Ada is now 4-2 with both losses coming to top-ranked teams. Ada dropped an 43-23 decision to Class 3A No. 1 Perkins-Tryon in the finals of the Bison Invitational earlier this month in — you guessed it — Shawnee (Oklahoma Baptist University).

“We did not shoot well. Good teams do that to you. Shawnee has an exceptional team. They look real solid at every position. They made us look not very good,” said Ada head coach Christie Jennings.

Only three Lady Cougars got into the scoring column, as Ada managed just seven field goals the whole night.

Junior forward Aaliyah Blakley’s 15 points led the way for the Lady Cougars. Blakley also grabbed five rebounds and recorded two steals in a losing cause. Sami Jewett was next for Ada with just six points, including one 3-pointer. All of her six points came in the first half.

Bailey Taylor’s 16 points, including three treys, led Shawnee, while McKenzie Cooper finished with 14, including one 3-pointer. Taylor and Cooper were each 6-of-11 from the field.
