Veteran Ada High line coach Nathan Elliott knew it would be a daunting task to build a new O-line to launch the returning cast of talented backs and receivers. He also knew he had the mentally tough bunch to get it done.
Now, perfect for the season at 8-0, dining lightly each game on a diet consisting of consuming opposing defenses by an average of a tenth of a percentage point shy of 50 points per game (49.9), Elliott credits hard work, competition and the Ada heritage he has played for on the 1991 and 1993 state championship teams to coaching the O-line since 2002.
The string of O-line mentors for Elliott is as impressive as it is long and reads like a genealogy of Ada football heritage — Don Byrd, Gary McBroom, Jim Waters, John Higbee, T.D. Teel. Add to that Midwest City Carl Albert head coach Gary Rose's line play philosophies via Ada head coach Matt Weber.
"Matt was an assistant at Carl Albert under Gary Rose. He learned a lot about the offensive line under coach Rose, and he has passed along a lot of that to me," Elliott said.
