Ada student to sing at famed venue next year

Ada —

Amber McClendon’s first trip to New York City will end with her performance at one of the most well-known and respected venues in the entire world.

A choir student at Ada High School, McClendon was selected to perform in the Alto 1 section in the American High School Honors Performance Series Feb. 12 at Carnegie Hall.

“I love singing and performing in general,” McClendon said.  “I’ve never been to New York and that’s on my bucket list.”

She said her great-grandmother initially sparked her interest in vocal music and she got involved in honor choir at Washington Grade Center.

Her favorite musician is Adele.  She listens to most genres of music but has an affinity for Broadway musicals.

“Our travel music is Broadway show tunes,” said McClendon’s mother, Traci Gold.

While in New York, McClendon will be given an opportunity to see a Broadway show.

She said she will receive music for the performance in December.  She will travel to New York Feb. 9 and a rehearsal clinic will be held for two days prior the performance.

She hopes to continue performing vocal music as a career or become a vocal music teacher.

“My main goal is to perform on Broadway,” she said.

Gold said she will be holding several fund raisers and bake sales to raise money for her trip.
