Just before the students in Trevor Robbins’ Advanced Placement U.S. history class started their assignments, the Ada High School teacher handed each student a tablet computer.
The students were studying eight social reformers of the late 19th century on Tuesday and comparing them with key historical figures of the early 20th century. Robbins told the students to break into small groups to discuss what the reformers and politicians had done and why.
As the discussions continued, the students used their tablets to gather more information.
The tablets make it easier for students to do research on the spot instead of going to the library or waiting until they get home, said junior Elizabeth Bagwell.
“Instead of having to write down questions, go home, try to search for them and then come back and have to do all that research by yourself, we can immediately look up our questions and get answers while they’re still fresh in our minds,” she said. “I think it’s a very big advantage. It’s been incredibly helpful.”
